Rebatch Homemade Lye Soap

There is also a process called re-batching your homemade lye soap. It is done for several reasons: taking advantage of the health benefits of essential oils or herbs, to boost the hue of the color, make the soap a variant shape or change its texture. This process is also named handmilling.

After you take the soap out of the mold grate or chop one of the bars. Melt it with water. Mix a cup of grated soap with one-quarter of herbal infusion or water. You can heat it in the microwave with the mixture in a heat and microwave safe container or use a double boiler. Heat the mix slowly and stir a lot. This will help to melt the bits of soap. Continue this process until the water is evaporated. Once the soap is melted stop heating and take out of the microwave or off the stove. Now is the time to add the extra ingredients. Some of the things that can be put into the soap are lotions, herbs, carrier oils or spices.

Now your re-batched soap is ready to pour into more decorative molds that will shape your homemade lye soap into more interesting designs. Make sure you use containers made of enamel, glass, plastic or stoneware that resists heat. If you wanted to change the color there are many natural colorants that combine with scents not interfering with them. Re-batching your homemade lye soap can really spruce it up nicely.
